Hong Kong, November 19, 2024 – Crown Logistics is proud to announce its active participation in a recent study conducted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong Asian Institute of Supply Chain & Logistics and the Centre for Business Sustainability, aimed at developing an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) roadmap for the local logistics industry. This initiative, commissioned by the Transport and Logistics Bureau, seeks to assess the current ESG landscape and formulate actionable strategies to encourage sustainable business practices across the sector.
The logistics industry faces significant challenges in adopting comprehensive ESG practices, with cost being a primary barrier for many companies, particularly small to medium enterprises (SMEs). Implementing ESG measures – such as transitioning to electric vehicles, investing in sustainable infrastructure, and employing renewable energy sources – requires substantial initial investments, often deterring companies from committing to sustainable practices.
Despite these challenges, ESG has significant relevance to the logistics sector, offering competitive advantages. Listed logistics corporations recognize that integrating ESG can enhance their brand and reputation. Major multinational clients increasingly impose ESG requirements as a condition for tender acceptance, with some demanding service vendors to demonstrate gradual progress in their ESG performance. Currently, approximately 5-10% of clients – primarily from the EU and US – have raised stringent ESG requirements, though this trend has yet to fully penetrate intra-Asia traffic.
Crown Logistics has emerged as a leader in integrating ESG principles into its operations. The company’s dedication to transparent reporting and innovative supply chain solutions was recently recognized with the 2024 HERA Grand Award for Best Sustainability Report for Non-listed Companies. This prestigious honour underscore Crown Logistics’ outstanding commitment to sustainable practices, innovation, and leadership within the global supply chain industry.
“This recognition is a testament to our team’s relentless dedication to sustainability and our ongoing efforts to create a positive impact in the communities we serve,” said Suki Cheung, Assistant General Manager of Crown Logistics. “Our goal is not just to meet the expectations of our clients and partners but to exceed them with innovative, sustainable solutions that drive the future of supply chain management.”
Crown Logistics has integrated advanced technologies and sustainability practices across its operations, including:
- Circular economy initiatives: Maximizing resource efficiency by reusing and recycling materials throughout its logistics processes.
- Renewable energy investments: Installation of solar panels in key warehouses, reducing the company’s carbon footprint and increasing energy efficiency.
- Use of electric vehicles and equipment: Incorporating electric forklifts and cranes, as well as energy-saving appliances equipped with motion sensors.
Through strategic partnerships and a continuous focus on improvement, Crown Logistics remains committed to reducing its environmental impact while enhancing service quality for clients worldwide. By actively contributing to CUHK’s study and sharing its experiences, Crown Logistics aims to inspire other companies within the logistics sector to overcome challenges and embrace ESG practices. The company believes that collective efforts and shared knowledge are essential to driving sustainable transformation across the industry.
